Iso-8
The Raider Iso-8 Class fits perfectly for Northstar, he can hit a lot of targets with his abilities and can deal a huge amount of damage. That said, another important part of his kit would be applying debuffs like Blind, and clearing Revive Once from enemies, and while he’s at low stars he might need the bonus focus that Skirmisher Class provides.
T4 Priority
P – Passive ability
U – Ultimate ability
S – Special ability
B – Basic ability
Passive – in Raids and on War Defense, while Northstar is not Exhausted, he will prevent enemies from gaining Charged. And Alpha Flight will spawn with 2 Evades (instead of 1). Preventing Charged in War will be massive because some of the best War teams use Charged mechanics, this will greatly limit who can counter Alpha Flight in War so it’s an essential upgrade.
Ultimate – will increase the damage slightly and will prolong all negative effects on all enemies by +1 (excluding Stun, Trauma, and Ability Block). While this might not be as useful because we cant prolong Trauma or Ability Block, enemies, especially in Raids, will end up having a lot of Bleeds, Defense Downs, Blinds, etc. So it can still be pretty useful. That said, Wolverine has the same effect on any enemy death as part of his Passive, so you can save your T4s
Special – will apply Blind for 2 turns to the primary target and will increase the damage slightly, this is not a game-changer and can be ignored until you have more T4s.
Basic – can end up being pretty useful in Raids, where after Northstar gains 10 Charged he will apply Trauma.

Theory Craft
Jean-Paul Beaubier brings his mutant powers of super speed and light generation (as well as an abrasive personality) to Alpha Flight as Northstar!
His main focus on the battlefield is controlling the enemies by applying tons of Blinds, removing Revive Once from them, and generating a lot of Damage. He also increases the total Speed of his team and can stop enemies from getting Charged, alas only on War Defense or in Raids.
Basic – Bright Barrage
Will hit the primary target for damage, the damage is increased by +25% per Charged
If Northstar has 1 or more Charged, he will also apply Offense Down to the target, And if he ends up with 10 Charged, he will apply Trauma.
Iso-8/Counterattack/Assist
The safety attack has the same effects.
Special – Rocky Pummel
Energy Cost: 3/3
First, he will attack the primary target for damage and will apply Blind to them for 2 turns.
If he’s Charged, he will then rebound chain to adjacent targets, dealing less damage and having a 50% chance to apply Blind on each attack. The amount of chains correlates to the number of Charged. This means that he can chain a total of 10 times if he’s fully Charged.
In Raids, he has a 100% Chance to apply Blind on his Chain attacks.
Counterattack breaks this Chain, but the attack is Unavoidable and cannot be blocked.
A great thing about this ability is that Northstar can use it very often due to a short cooldown, so as long as he has a lot of Charged, he can cause chaos on the battlefield.
Ultimate – Hyperlight Twister
Energy Cost: 7/7
First, Northstar will flip all positive effects and will remove all Revive Once from all enemies.
Then, he will attack them for damage, gaining +10% bonus damage per Charged. He will also apply Slow for 2 turns and Disrupted for 1 turn and will prolong the duration of all negative effects (excluding Stun, Trauma, and Ability Block) by +1 (up to 3 max)
On War Defense, he will also clear all Charged from all enemies.
This attack is Unavoidable.
This is a great ability, but the price is a long cooldown. In Raids the cooldown will be easier to manage because there are other ways you can gain bonus energy if Sunfire is an ally.
Passive – True North
On Spawn, Northstar will apply 2 Evades to self and all Alpha Flight allies. He will also clear all Charged from himself.
Clearing Charged is very unfortunate because in Raids on subsequent attacks having his charges ready would be very useful, but alas. He does gain +1 Charged whenever an Alpha Flight ally or Northstar himself is attacked and he can have up to 10 Charged max.
On enemy death, Northstar will apply Speed Up to self and all Alpha Flight characters. Northstar is fairly fast so this will make him even faster and his team will be very dangerous, especially if you intend to face them with a team that features a lot of minions.
In Raids, enemy characters cannot gain bonus Speed Bar. This means that enemies won’t be able to utilize abilities that provide Speed Bar for them or their allies. But they will still gain Speed Bar through normal means.
Northstar passively gains +50% Focus and +50% Resistance, and his Alpha Flight allies also gain +50% Resistance.
In Raids and on War Defense:
- On enemy Death, Northstar will apply Slow to all enemies
- Alpha Flight characters gain +25% Speed
- While Northstar is not Exhausted:
- Alpha Flight cannot have their Speed Bar reduced and cannot gain Slow
- Enemies cannot gain Charged
- Alpha Flight characters gain +250% Focus.
Conclusion
Northstar is one of the most valuable members of the Alpha Flight team, he provides a ton of benefits, like increased Speed, immunity to Slow and Speed Bar reductions, or preventing enemies from gaining Charged. His damage is also very good and once he gains more Charged, he will be a force to reckon with.
He can even be a good plug-and-play option because his kit is not fully locked behind a game mode or behind being with his team. Most of his Passive abilities are, for sure. But his active abilities can still be very useful in all modes. Applying mass Blinds (as long as he’s Charged), clearing Revive Once, and flipping all positive effects, etc.
Northstar could also be a good option for Dark Dimension, but you would need someone to heal him because he needs to survive a few hits to gain more Charged, which will make him even more useful.
