Captain Britain can apply Defense Up and Deflect with his Basic and the Iso-8 follow-up attack, which will end up providing a lot of protection for his team or any Hero allies, this makes him a perfect Striker.

Special – will also apply Trauma to the primary target (only in Crucible and if he has 2 Illuminati allies). Without a maxed special and as long as the target has no Barrier, Captain Britain will apply Stun to them, but this upgrade will allow him to also apply Trauma, which will prevent Stun from being cleared and that can be very important, especially against Mythic enemies.
Awakened Special – will allow this ability to apply Stun even if the target has Barrier.

Ultimate – will provide a decent increase to the damage dealt and will apply Immunity to all Hero allies for 2 Turns (instead of 1).
Awakened Ultimate – will always clear all negative effects from this character (instead of only cleansing when his health is below 50%)

Passive – will almost double the damage of his On Turn passive attack, and will clear all negative effects on self when Captain Britain or an Illuminati ally drops below 50% Health.
Awakened Passive – will add +20% Drain to his On Turn attack, which will essentially allow him to heal himself for substantial amounts each turn, dramatically improving his sustain.

Basic – will apply Defense Up to all Hero allies for 2 turns (instead of 1). While this might not be an essential upgrade, it is still needed because he also has an awakened version of the Basic.
Awakened Basic – will clear all positive effects on the primary target (instead of 2)

Theory Craft

Brian Braddock was a physicist from the United Kingdom when he was granted the powers of Captain Britain by the mystical Merlyn and his daughter Roma after a near-fatal accident. Choosing the Amulet of Right over the Sword of Might, he became Captain Britain and gained superhuman strength, speed, and the ability to fly, powers that grow in strength with his confidence. As Captain Britain, he defends the realm from both earthly and mystical threats.

Captain Britain is a mighty Protector who can work well with his Illuminati team and any Hero allies. He has high Health and Damage stats, which make him a fearsome Protector. He can keep his team safe by constantly applying Defense Ups and Deflects, reflexively Taunting when an Illuminati ally drops below 50% Health, and applying Immunity to the team or gaining Taunt from his abilities. Furthermore, he will also provide support by flipping Immunity on enemies, applying Offense Down to them and Stun. Notably, the most important ability he has is the prevention of any Speed Bar manipulations for his enemies and allies, alas even if it works only in Cosmic Crucible.

Basic – Avalon Strike

Will attack the primary target for damage, and will clear 2 positife effects (or all positives if awakened). IF the primary target doesn’t have Barrier, the attack damage increases.

Then he will apply 2 Deflect and Defense Up for 2 turns to self and all Hero allies.

Iso-8/Counterattack/Assist

The safety attack will hit the primary target for slightly less damage, but everything else is identical to the Basic attack.

This makes him a great choice for a Striker Iso-8 Class, because not only will he be able to clear a lot of positive effects this way, but he will also improve his team’s defensive and even offensive capabilities. Black Panther (Shuri) can apply Bleed to all targets when she gains Defense Up, and with Captain Britain as a Striker that effect will end up triggering very often.

Special – British Brawl

Energy Cost: 3/3

This will attack the primary target for damage and will apply +1 Offense Down (up to 3 max). If the target does not have Barrier, this will also apply Stun. (if awakened, this will apply Stun even if the target has Barrier)
In Crucible, if at least 2 Illuminati allies are present, this will also apply Trauma for 2 turns to the primary target.

Then it will Rebound Chain to 4 adjacent targets, applying +1 Offense Down (up to 3 max).

In Crucible, this attack will also clear Revive Once from primary and each adjacent target he hits, this gains a bonus 1,500% Focus so most of the time it will not be resisted.

After that, Captain Britain will apply Defense Up and Immunity to self and all Illuminati allies and will apply Taunt to himself, if his Health is above 50%. If the Health is below that, he will instead apply +1 Speed Up to all Hero Support allies.

This ability is on a very short cooldown and that offers a lot of value, considering that it can Stun a target and provide additional support, whether it’s Taunt or Speed Up to Hero Support characters. While the best parts of the ability are locked behind Crucible (Trauma or clearing Revive Once), this will still be a superb ability in all other game modes and can be incredibly helpful in Dark Dimensions.

Ultimate – Tea Time Teardown

Energy Cost: 6/6

This attack will hit the primary target for a huge amount of damage and will apply apply Stun and Disrupted for 1 turn, and Trauma for 2 turns.

Then, if Captain Britain’s Health is above 50% Health, he will gain Taunt for 1 turn and Immunity for 2 turns. And if his Health is below 50%, he will clear all negative effects from himself (if this ability is awakened, he will always clear all negative effects from himself)

In Crucible, if his Health is above 50%, he will apply Immunity for 1 turns to all Hero allies.
on Defense, this ability will instead attack the Bio Brawler with the highest Damage (ignoring Taunt and Stealth).

This attack is Unavoidable and cannot be blocked.

This ability can be used on his first turn, which can be great for immobilizing a target with Stun/Trauma combination, which he can then do again using his Special on his second attack (although that will only apply Trauma in Crucible).

Passive – Champion Of The Isles

One of the most notable parts of Captain Britain’s Passive is that in Cosmic Crucible, any Speed Bar manipulation is forbidden. So neither enemies nor allies will be able to additionally fill/or reduce Speed Bar. This won’t affect the Speed Bar gained through normal means. Speed Up and Slow will work normally since they affect the characters’ Speed stat.

On Spawn, Captain Britain will apply Defense Up for 2 turns to self and all Illuminati allies.

On Turn, he will passively attack all enemies dealing some damage, flipping their Immunity, and applying Offense Down.

This is an incredibly powerful mechanic because it almost entirely negates the Immunity effect that enemies can have, and this ability becomes even stronger once awakened because it will add Drain to the Paassive attack, which will Heal Captain Britain for substantial amounts (depending on the enemy quantity) every turn. In modes such as Raids or Dark Dimension he can end up healing himself back to full health each time he takes a turn.

When Captain Britain or any Illuminati ally drops below 50% Health Captain Britain will clear all negative effects on self and will gain Taunt, if his Health is above 50%, and will apply +2 Deflect (up to 5 max) to self and all Hero allies.

When Captain Britain falls below 30% Health, he will flip Taun on self to Stealth, and will gain Defense Up for 2 turns.

This is a great mix of a protection mechanic with the reflexive Taunt, and mercy mechanic, which will allow Captain Britain to slip into Stealth when he’s close to being defeated.

When Captain Britain has Taunt, he will lower the Crit Chance of all enemies by 100% and since he can often gain Taunt, this can have a big impact on the battlefield, especially when punching up against him.

While he has more than 50% Health, Captain Britain gains +50% Damage and +1,000% Focus, allowing him to apply negative effects more easily and with more gusto (more damage). But when his Health is below 50% Health he switches into a defensive stance and gains +100% Armor, and + 1,000% Resistance meaning that he will be much harder to eliminate or control.

He also gains +50% Resistance and +50% Armor passively, and provides the same bonuses to all Illuminati allies.

Conclusion

Captain Britain’s introduction will make him one of the best characters for Cosmic Crucible, where he and the Illuminati team will steal the best Crucible team title from the Cabal. While on paper Captain Britain is a Protector, he behaves more like a hybrid between Protector/Brawler and Controller since he can deal tons of damage with his attacks, has an On Turn Passive attack capable of flipping Immunity, has plenty of control with an option to Stun enemies with both Special and Ultimate, and last but not least – his protective capabilities, that allow him to nearly always maintain Deflects and Defense Up on his allies, and Taunt frequently, if his Health is above 50%.

While most of the best parts of his abilities are locked behind Crucible, he is still a top-tier character in other game modes. In part, that’s because he has better stats at the point of release, but moreover, his abilities will still provide a lot of value whether used as a plug-and-play or with his team.
