Iso-8

As a Support character, Hank can be a decent Skirmisher or even Healer, but ultimately having him as a Striker might be the best option. His Basic and the Iso-8 follow-up attacks can apply Barrier to all Hero allies and as a Striker, he can ensure that his allies have as much Barrier as possible. Hank also passively increases the max % of Barrier Illuminati can have, meaning that his Barrier will be able to withstand a lot of damage.

T4 Priority

P – Passive ability

U – Ultimate ability

S – Special ability

B – Basic ability

Passive – will increase the Max Health of Illuminati characters by +50% (instead of +25%) and, In Crucible, will provide Illuminati with +25% Drain, which will further increase their sustain making this an essential upgrade.

Ultimate – will slightly increase the damage, and will also apply Trauma to all enemies (only in Crucible)

Special – will flip all negative effects to positive ones on self and all Illuminati allies. Another essential upgrade, considering how useful that will end up being.

Basic – will call for a second assist from a random Hero ally, while this might not be as essential, this is an amazing upgrade to have, considering the damage it can do, and the effects on assisting attacks of his allies.

Theory Craft

Dr. Hank Pym is a brilliant scientist who discovered a unique set of subatomic particles, which he named “Pym Particles,” allowing him to alter his size and mass. Using this breakthrough, he became the superhero Ant-Man, founding member of the Avengers, and later assumed other heroic identities such as Giant-Man, Goliath, and Yellowjacket. Despite his heroic contributions, Pym’s career has been marked by personal struggles, including his creation of the dangerous artificial intelligence Ultron, which has repeatedly threatened humanity.

Hank Pym is the ultimate Support character who will excel at keeping his team alive and in good shape, he can apply Barrier with all of his abilities, his Special and Ultimate can heal all Hero allies. His Passive ability is incredible, allowing him to prevent enemies from gaining Regeneration, and saving allies from having Slow applied to them, as well as being able to passively heal his allies when they fall below 40% Max Health. On top of having a high natural Speed, Hank’s Health stat is also one of the best in the game.

Basic – Pym Punch

Will hit the primary target for damage and will apply Barrier for 15% of Hank’s Max Health to self and all Hero allies.

Then, he will gain an Assist from a random Illuminati ally, and a second Assist from a random Hero ally.

This attack cannot be dodged.

Iso-8/Counterattack/Assist

The safety attack will hit for slightly less damage and will apply Barrier for 10% of his Max Health to all Hero allies.

Special – Ant March

Energy Cost: 4/4

This will start by flipping all negative effects to positive on self and all Illuminati allies. Then it will Barrier all Illuminati for 25% of Hank’s Max Health.

After that, Hank will attack the primary target, dealing some piercing damage and making a bonus attack for normal damage.

Then, Hank will clear all Vulnerable from self and all Hero allies and will heal them for 35% of his Max Health.

To top it off, Hank will also apply Safeguard for 2 turns to self and all Illuminati allies.

This attack is Unavoidable.

This is an incredible ability not only because it can flip negative effects, heal and apply Safeguard, but also because it can clear Vulnerable effect from all Hero allies, in any game mode. This can make Hank a strong plug-and-play in some game modes, like recurring Tower modes (Satellite, Kyln) or Dark Dimensions.

Ultimate – Tank Pym

Energy Cost: 3/6

This ability will attack all enemies, will flip Immunity and apply Slow and Offense Down for 2 turns.

Then it will heal all Hero allies for 15% of Hank’s Max Health.

This attack is Unavoidable and cannot be blocked or counterattacked.

In Crucible, this will also apply Trauma to all enemies and the ability gains bonus +100% Focus per each Hero ally, which should ensure that the Trauma won’t be resisted.

Passive – ANT-Y Hero

On Spawn, Hank will Barrier self and all Hero allies for 25% of his Max health. In Crucible, he will also apply Speed Up for 2 turns to all Illuminati allies.

On Turn:

  • Hank will attack all enemies for 30% Piercing damage and flip Stealth
  • If he has 2 or more Hero allies, this attack will be repeated 1 time
  • This attack applies Offense Down to everyone
  • In Crucible, this attack will be repeated 1 additional time

While the damage from Hank’s On Turn attack is negligible, once he repeats that attack a few times it can leave a mark on your enemies, but most importantly, this will clear all Evades and will almost guarantee that all Stealthed targets get drawn into the spotlight.

When Hank or any Hero ally drops below 40% Max Health, that character will gain Barrier for 40% of Hank’s Max Health. And if that’s the first time the character dropped below 40% Max Health and if Hank is not Exhausted, he will clear all negative effects from that character and will heal them for 35% of Hank’s Max Health.

This is a great mercy mechanic because the Heal combined with the Barrier he will apply will provide a huge amount of protection, meaning that characters will stay alive for much longer.

If Hank Pym has 2 or more Illuminati allies, enemies cannot gain Regeneration and Hero allies cannot gain Slow. This part of his Passive works in all game modes which is incredible because preventing Slow from being applied to all Hero allies will give them a big advantage. Especially if you have someone who can apply Speed Up to your team.

Hank Pym also increase the max amount of Barrier the Illuminati team can have, up to 45% of their Max Health. And he also increases their Max Health by +50%.

In Crucible, he will also provide Drain for self and all Hero allies, which will further improve the sustain of that team.

Conclusion

Hank Pym is one the best support characters as of late, his Barrier Mechanic and Heals and the Passive perks he applies to the team, all that is what makes him great. And he will be incredible in Crucible, no question, but his abilities are not as restrictive so in other game modes, he will still have tremendous value.
