Iso-8
A natural pick for Photon would be a Striker class. Her Basic ability can clear Positive Effects and add +1 Charged to Photon, and the same effects apply to Assists/Counters/Iso-attacks
With her Secret Defenders team members, she won’t have any need for additional Focus since she will get more from Ghost Rider’s (Robbie) Passive. But when using her in War with A-Force she might need to be Skirmisher to effectively flip Positive effects.
T4 Priority
P – Passive ability
U – Ultimate ability
S – Special ability
B – Basic ability
Passive – will increase her and the team’s Damage in Arena by +30%. Simple, but a good boost that certainly will come in handy.
Ultimate – will increase the Damage of the attack, and Apply Defense Up and Speed Up for 2 turns instead of 1. For an AoE ability more damage is always good, and prolonging the Speed Up is a great bonus. If you don’t intend to use Photon in Arena that much, you should invest T4’s in this skill first and ignore Passive.
Special – will increase the damage output and this attack is another AoE. On War Offense, it will also Heal A-Force and Secret Defender allies for 30% of Photon’s Max Health.
Basic – upgrading her basic isn’t strictly necessary, but it will flip 3 buffs instead of 2 and add some damage. So it won’t be a waste of T4’s if you have plenty of them.

Theory Craft
S.W.O.R.D. Agent Monica Rambeau was sent to the town of Westview where she was instrumental in saving the townsfolk from the Hex forged by Scarlet Witch. During her mission, Monica crossed the Hex barrier multiple times, causing her cells to be rewritten and resulting in Monica gaining the ability to absorb and perceive various forms of energy, pass through solid objects, and possess superhuman reflexes. Combined with her expert hand-to-hand combat and marksman skills, Monica became the powerful hero Photon.
Photon is a Blaster for the Secret Defenders and specializes in atomizing enemies with heavy attacks. On top of gouging chunks of Health, Photon can also Blind characters who have 100% Accuracy. Her Charged mechanic is similar to Thor’s where, after gaining five Charged, she lights up all of her enemies for big damage. Photon is also receiving the “A-Force” trait, making her the official fifth member of the team.
Basic – Light Show
Photon will attack the primary target for a moderate amount of damage, flip 3 Positive effects, and deal 5% of the target’s Max Health as damage. Gain +1 Charged
This can be particularly useful against targets with massive amounts of Max Health, that you can encounter in Raids or Dark Dimension. Especially when you consider that the same applies to her ISO – 8/Counter Attack/Assists:
ISO – 8/Counter Attack/Assists
Photon will attack the primary target for a moderate amount of damage, a small amount of piercing damage, flip 3 Positive effects, and deal 5% of the target’s Max Health as damage. Gain +1 Charged.
Special – Aurora Blast
Energy Cost: 5/5
Special ability will deal a moderate amount of damage to primary and adjacent targets, apply Blind and Slow to them and clear all Deflect and minor Deflect.
This attack gets a 1,000% boost to Focus, so it will land most of the time. Additionally, in War, it will heal self and all Secret Defender and A-Force allies for 30% of this character’s Max Health
This is the ability that will be used on her first turn and it will leave your enemies defenseless, especially in War where Deflects are much more prevalent. it will also heal your team in War, which might not be necessary on the first turn but will definitely come in handy later on.
Ultimate – Full Spectrum Flash
Energy Cost: 3/5
This Ultimate ability will deal a big amount of AoE damage to all enemies, apply Offense Down for 2 turns, and will additionally strengthen her team by applying 2 turns of Defense Up to all allies. It will also Generate 1 Ability Energy and apply 2 turns of Speed Up to Secret Defender and A-Force Allies.
This is as good as it gets for a non-legendary Ultimate ability. Big damage for the enemies and Speed Up+Protection for the allies.
Passive – Radiant Light
On Spawn, gain 2 Charged. When a Secret Defender or A-Force ally uses an Ultimate ability, gain +1 Charged.
On any character’s turn, if Photon has 5 or more Charged she will Attack all enemies for moderate damage, then fill Speed Bar for self and all Secret Defenders and A-Force allies by 20% and Lose 5 Charged.
Very similar to the way Thor’s charges work. The big distinction here is that she get’s Charges from her allies using their Ultimates, from Photon using her Basic, or from Black Cat’s special.
In fact, this will almost always trigger after she uses her Special for the first time.
That’s the first half of her Passive, the second one will:
Lower the Accuracy of enemies with Blind by an additional 100% (Meaning that characters like Apocalypse, Hawkeye, Kate Bishop, and Zombie Iron Man will no longer be able to hit you when Blinded )
The Speed of Photon and each A-Force and Secret Defender ally can only be reduced by Slow. This directly negates Emma Frost’s Passive
Gain +30% Damage and +15% Max Health and A-Force and Secret Defender allies gain +30% Damage and +15% Max Health.
And there are some mode-specific bonuses:
- In Arena – Photon and Secret Defenders gain additional +30% Damage.
- In War – On Turn, heal self and all A-Forve allies for 5% of Photon’s Max Health. This character and all A-Force allies’ Speed Bar cannot be reduced until this character takes a turn.
Conclusion
Photon is in a unique position where she’s an official member of both Secret Defenders and A-Force teams. In Arena, this won’t pose any issues, but in the War mode, you might find yourself questioning whom to use her with. It would seem that the developers intend for you to use her with A-Force, and to bring another plug-n-play character to fill the spot on the Secret Defenders team. The beauty of it is – we have options. And that’s always great in a game like this.
