Iso-8
Mephisto is extremely powerful and he’s the best character in the game. He also introduced a new mechanic – permanent damage. All of his attacks deal damage that reduces the Max Health of his enemies equal to the damage dealt, meaning that the character can’t heal back what health they lost. That also applies to Mephisto’s Basic and follow-up attacks that’s why Striker is so appealing for him.
T4 Priority
P – Passive ability
S – Special ability
U – Ultimate ability
B – Basic ability
Passive – A very simple but valuable upgrade, it will increase his Max Health by +25% and the Max Health of all allies by +10%.
Special – will increase the damage to the Primary target, and add +10% Healing and +10% Speed Bar for Mephisto and Ghost Rider characters.
Ultimate – His Ultimate will massively increase the damage he deals to all enemies
Basic – will increase the damage dealt and the number of Chain attacks to 2.
On paper, these upgrades don’t sound that impressive, but considering the stats of Mephisto and the simple fact that he’s a Mythic character – we do recommend getting all of his abilities maxed out.

Theory Craft
Mephisto is an extradimensional demon who rules a pocket dimension he calls Hell and often poses as Satan (although he is not THE Satan). He seeks to rule the world and enjoys cutting deals in exchange for souls. Along with soul manipulation, Mephisto possesses immense power, including unlimited ability to manipulate magical energies, incalculable strength, immortality, and shapeshifting. He’s clashed with many heroes repeatedly, including Spider-Man, Doctor Strange, Thor, and Daredevil.
Once he arrives, Mephisto will be the apex warrior of Marvel Strike Force. He will always be the first to take a turn in any given fight (except for when fighting enemy Mephisto, then the chance is 50/50) and will become Empowered and start the fight with one of the Contracts. He has 3 Contracts available, all offering immense power that can shape the fight to your liking. Once he uses a Contract he will lose Empowered and will apply his Battlefield Effect Mark Of Mephisto to the allies side.
Basic – Malevolent Strikes
Will attack the primary target and will apply 2 Bleed for 2 turns and Defense Down for 1 turn, then it will rebound chain to 2 adjacent targets dealing slightly less damage but applying the same negative effects. This damage reduces the Max Health of the target by the same amount.
- If any attack is a Crit, gain 3 Regeneration for 2 turns.
- Gain +1 Immunity (up to 3 max).
- If this character has Ability Block, this attack always Crits.
- This attack is Unavoidable and cannot be Blocked or counterattacked.
Iso-8/Counterattack/Assist
Will attack the primary target for slightly less damage and will apply 2 Bleed for 2 turns and Defense Down for 1 turn.
Both his Basic and the follow-up attack will deal permadamage, which makes for a strong case of using Striker as an Ison for him.
Special – Hellfire Blast
Energy Cost: 3/3
First, he will attack the primary target, dealing a lot of damage, clearing 3 positive effects, and then applying Trauma for 1 Turn and Disrupted for 2 Turns. This damage reduces the Max Health of the target by the same amount.
Then he (and all Ghost Rider characters) will gain the next benefits:
- Flip all negative effects to positive effects.
- Heal for 20% of this character’s Max Health.
- Fill Speed Bar by 20%.
If Mephisto has any Hero allies, he will apply Taunt for 2 Turns to all Hero allies. If there are no Hero allies, he will apply Taunt for 2 Turns to the Villain ally with the highest Health (including himself)
This will also apply Defense Up for 2 turns to self and all allies. And will apply Offense Down to all enemies for 2 Turns.
It will also control the enemy with the highest Damage to attack the primary target. The controlled character gains +50% Damage for this attack.
This is a very powerful ability that has a little bit of everything (control, high damage, healing, sustain), and on top of that, it’s also on a short cooldown, meaning it will be used very often.
Ultimate – Revenge of the Damned
Energy Cost: 3/6
First, this Ability will target all Mythic enemies and will:
- Apply Vulnerable.
- Flip Immunity.
- Apply Ability Block for 2 turns.
Then, it will attack all enemies for enormous amounts of damage and will apply Trauma for 2 Turns. This damage reduces the Max Health of the target by the same amount.
It will then clear all Battlefield effects on the allied side and will apply the Mark Of Mephisto Battlefield effects to the allied side.
Mark Of Mephisto Battlefield effect will:
- On any Turn, Barrier all allies for 5% of that character’s Max Health.
- Allies gain +50% Drain and Armor.
- Allies cannot gain Trauma.
- Allies cannot have their Speed Bar reduced.
- This Battlefield Effect lasts until cleared or until the end of the match.
Mephisto activates his Battlefield Effect after his first turn so often you won’t need his Ultimate to apply it, but in some rare scenarios where the enemy Red Hulk applies his Gamma Radiation to you, you will be able to clear that and reapply Mark Of Mephisto. Including all future enemies that will have Battlefield effects.
The most dangerous part of this Ultimate is the amount of damage it will deal since all of that will be permanent damage and no one will be able to heal back. On Top of that, it will also neutralize any Mythic character and will apply Trauma to all enemies.
Passive – … In The Details
This character cannot be Revived. While this character is alive, allies and enemies cannot be Revived.
The fact that no one can be revived, coupled with the permanent damage Mephisto deals will make him an exceptionally dangerous enemy.
On Spawn, if this character is not a Clone and does not have Exhausted, gain +666% Speed until this character’s first turn + if this character has any Mythic enemies, gain Charged. On this character’s first turn, if this character is not a Clone and does not have Exhausted, become Empowered.
This part prevents clones of Mephisto made by Dark Beast (in Raids) or Mister Sinister from being very useful, since they are cheap copies they won’t be able to make any contracts.
The first time this character gains Stun, clear Stun and heal self and all allies for 20% of this character’s Max Health.
Like all DD characters, Mephisto doesn’t like to be stunned, although it does look like we will be able to Stun him on the second attempt, which is something we can use to make a good counter.
When this character or an ally drops below 20% Max Health, clear Taunt from that character.
On any non-summoned Death, gain +1 Charged, up to a maximum of 10. For each Charged, gain +10% Armor, Damage, Focus, and Resistance.
Gain +20% Max Barrier. Gain +50% Max Health. Allies gain +20% Max Health.
- Enemies cannot gain Stealth.
- Enemies with Exposed cannot fill Speed Bar for themselves or allies (this does not apply to Speed Bar gained through normal means).
When Mephisto becomes Empowered he gains access to 3 Contracts – Basic (Contract from Below), Special(Weakening Bargain), and Ultimate (Debilitating Pact).
Empowered Basic – Contract From Below
- Attack primary target for 50% of target’s Max Health + apply 2 Vulnerable. This damage reduces the Max Health of the target by the same amount.
- Gain +3 Charged.
- Lose Empowered.
This can be incredibly helpful when facing enemies with massive Health pools. The ones we can usually encounter in PvE game modes, like Arena, Raids, and Dark Dimensions. Maybe even in the future with the Siege of Battlewords arriving soon. This can allow you to eliminate the Boss easily and quickly. Note, that the Health Reduction is cleared at the end of the Match so you will only have one chance to eliminate the big targets quickly. In PvP modes you won’t end up using this that often since other Contracts offer way more value.
Empowered Special – Weakening Bargain
- Apply Exposed to the primary target and adjacent enemies.
- Apply Exposed to all Mythic enemies.
- Gain +1 Charged.
- Lose Empowered.
This can be extremely helpful when facing Mythic enemies, such as Super Skrull and Apocalypse since Enemies with Exposed cannot fill Speed Bar for themselves or allies (this does not apply to Speed Bar gained through normal means) thanks to Mephisto’s Passive. This means that Super Skrull won’t be as fast as usual, and Apocalypse after using his Ultimate will have to wait until he can use his Empowered Basic. Not only that, this will also be extremely beneficial for your Super Skrull if you pair him up with Mephisto since enemies won’t be able to gain Safeguard too, which will substantially lower their protection potential.
Empowered Ultimate – Debilitating Pact
- Apply Exhausted to all enemies.
- Lose Empowered.
Exhausted is not a new effect, we have it in War and Cosmic Crucible, it will reduce the stats of affected characters (Damage, Armor, Resist, Focus, and Damage Reduction) by 20%. This can be very effective against enemies like Black Knight who can lose a lot of their potential when Exhausted.
Conclusion
Essentially, in PvP modes like Cosmic Crucible and Alliance War, you want to start with the Ultimate Contract first. If the enemy team has a lot of Mythic characters – then using the Special Contract will be preferable. Using the Basic Contract is recommended only when there is one very dangerous enemy with high Health (mostly in PvE game modes)
Each of the Contracts will activate the Mark Of Mephisto once used, which will increase the protection of your team.
Mephisto has an incredibly powerful kit and he will be the best character in the game when players start unlocking him. He will offer tremendous value in all game modes and will be a mainstay in the game for years to come, but he isn’t overpowered to the point that you can’t beat him – which is a great thing. There will be ways to defeat him, but it will be quite a hellish challenge.
