How to Pick Your Role
Marvel Rivals is a Hero Shooter game, which means that you will have various heroes that fit certain roles, just like in Overwatch. for example, a game that you must have heard of.
Different heroes fit different roles, such as Tank, DPS, and Support, or Vanguard, Duelist, and Strategist, as they are called in this game.
Vanguard/Tank
If you enjoy fighting in the front line of your team, leading the charge and defense, and playing a hero that will determine your team composition, then Vanguard is definitely the right role for you.
The ideal beginner hero to get the gist of this role is definitely Groot. This hero not only has an easy learning curve but also fits perfectly with the vast majority of team compositions that you can play in this game!
Duelist/DPS
If you consider yourself a fan of big flashy plays and headshots that will swing the odds in your favor, this role will fit you like a glove.
Players coming from other FPS games will definitely find Punisher right up their alley as the game style is instantly recognizable.
Then again, if you prefer melee and movement-oriented heroes, Magik is definitely your pick!
Strategist/Support
Last but not least we have the Strategist role – perfect for players that enjoy having their team’s back and overlooking the whole game.
The best hero to get the hang of Strategist gameplay is certainly Luna Snow, as she will help you keep your whole team alive without any issues!
Summary
Depending on how much experience you have in hero shooters, you should decide which heroes to pick. In Marvel Rivals there is a piece of cake for everyone.
There are characters who are based on fighting games, like Captain America, it’s all about hitting your combos. Also, there is a combination of that and insane movement like you are in the single-player game, and Spider-Man is a perfect pick if you like that.
If you are a classic FPS player, I recommend Hela, Adam Warlock, or Black Widow because your headshots will win you the games. But if you like a combination of aim and movement Star-Lord and Rocket Racoon will suit you perfectly. And the combination of aim and combos, there is even a character for that, Winter Soldier. Your abilities enable your gun and your headshots, so if you time it right he gives you an amazing new experience.
Game Modes
As you start a game of Marvel Rivals, you will be placed in one of three different game modes, each played differently – Domination, Convoy, or Convergence.
Domination
Each Domination game is played in a best-out-of-three format. Teams will be battling in order to take control of the objective point, and, after a team successfully captures it, it will start ticking slowly toward 100%. However, even if you don’t capture the point after the first team fight, you will have your chance to do so for as long as you need to, or, until the enemy team’s progress reaches 100%. Underneath the progress bar of the objective point, you will also see how many allies, or enemies, are contesting the point, letting you plan your course of action accordingly.
Convoy
In the Convoy game mode, your goal is to escort the payload towards the last checkpoint or to prevent the enemy team from doing so, depending on whether you are an attacker or defender. However, in Competitive, both teams will rotate, which means that you will be both, defending and attacking.
Convergence
Convergence is 3rd, and last available game mode in Marvel Rivals. It plays fairly similar to Convoy, the only difference being you will first need to capture payload, whose progress bar is split into three segments before it starts moving towards the next checkpoint. Just like the Convoy mode, in Competitive, you will also be playing both sides – attacker and defender, so make sure to do your best in order to stall the enemies’ progress!
Tips and Tricks
The first thing you should know is to take it slow, the game can be really chaotic and confusing at the beginning, so most players who haven’t had experience with this kind of games will feel lost. Take it slow, step by step, first pick your role and try to master one character you really like.
Objectives are most important, your K/D and all other stats will absolutely help and win you the games most of the time, but they truly don’t matter that much in the grand scheme of things.
Remember to use cover it’s still a shooter and your head can blow up in a matter of seconds, but be active always. The more you are active doing damage your ult will charge faster, and in-game like Marvel Rivals, ults are extremely overpowered and important.
