Cosmic Crucible - Team Counters (Season 22)

Intro

In our Cosmic Crucible-best Defense Teams article, we suggested what teams are justified to be placed on CC Defense. This page will offer Counters for the defenses that we suggested as well as the most popular defenses you might encounter

IMPORTANT – As the new Crucible Season starts things may change quickly and this page will be updated continuously. Step-by-step descriptions of Counters and Video Guides will be added as the Season progresses. If you have any suggestions or need counters for specific teams, contact us on Discord.

Explanation

On each Stage you will see the name of the Defensive team and a list below, with possible counters. At the Top of the page, we have a list of Teams and with a simple click on the team’s name, you will be instantly transferred to their list of counters with a brief explanation for each counter. Next to each counter team, you will see a symbol representing Punch Ups.

Season 22

Season 22 will officially begin shortly after Season 21. There will be Ultimate 32 tournament between the two seasons, so keep it in mind as you plan and follow the schedule. This Season is expected to last the usual seven weeks. Players can anticipate a standard set of new Global and Stage Rules, which will include a mix of familiar Rooms from previous seasons as well as some entirely new ones.

The Global Rules, titled “Exalted,” will boost Exalted X-Men characters. On a successful attack against a character affected by Bleed, Exalted X-Men heal for 15% of their maximum health. This means their sustain will be further enhanced through the Global Rules, as they can passively heal whenever they attack an opponent who has Bleed. Additionally, since some of them can inflict Bleed with their own attacks, these healing situations will occur naturally during battles when they target Bleeding enemies.

Stages 1 and 2 have no additional rules beyond the global ones, keeping things simple and straightforward.

Stage 3 focuses on Iso-8, where specific Iso-8 classes receive unique bonuses. Striker characters with Ability Block gain +50% Damage, and when they attack a character with Ability Block, they also apply Bleed. Raider characters will clear Ability Block on their turn and heal themselves for 10% of their Max Health. Skirmisher characters, on a successful attack, will apply Ability Block to the primary target. This will create interesting Iso-8 combinations and strategies for this Stage.

In Stage 4, at the end of each character’s turn, they will gain 5 turns of Bleed. Additionally, on a successful hit, every character will transfer all of their Bleed to the character they are attacking. As a result, this stage will feature a lot of Bleed effects, meaning heavy damage over time throughout the battle.

In Stage 5, whenever any character successfully attacks a target with Exposed, they will grant 1 energy to a random ally. This means that characters who can apply Exposed—such as Super Skrull, Mephisto, and most importantly Storm (Mighty)—will be especially valuable. As a result, this will be an interesting stage for the Exalted X-Men and teams that can consistently inflict Exposed.

In Stage 6, at the start of each character’s turn, they will take damage equal to 15% of their Max Health, and on a successful hit, they will apply Heal Block to their target. This means that in this stage, all characters will gradually but inevitably damage themselves with each turn they take—the longer the battle goes on, the more damage they will inflict on themselves. Therefore, having characters or teams that can heal will be especially valuable in this stage to help counteract the constant self-inflicted damage.

The Exhausted effect will work similarly to how it functions in War; after each attack, defending characters will experience a 20% reduction in their primary stats (Damage, Focus, Resistance, Armor) while also taking 20% more damage. The Exhausted effect can stack, meaning that after two unsuccessful attacks, the defending enemies will see their stats reduced by 40%. This mechanic aims to alleviate situations where players struggle to complete any Stage. It’s worth noting that canceled attacks will not trigger the Exhausted effect.

Every counter listed below should function as intended based on our experience and theory-crafting. But as the season goes things will change, we might find some counters work better, others worse, so this page will be constantly updated, which is especially true for the first couple of weeks of the season. Our goal is to make the best Counters List so feel free to contact us on Discord if you find a good defense or counter that is not yet listed.

This season, we are updating the way we present the Counters page. Instead of splitting the page into Stages, we will focus more on individual teams and then the Stages where counters will work/not work, this way we can provide more detailed counters and list more team variations.

Season Counters

Below, you will find a list of the teams that are most likely to be the main teams used on defense this season. Each team will have counters to available variations and specific Stages where necessary. The first couple of Trials of the Season are always the most turbulent, so the best Counters might change a lot. We will keep updating this page to reflect any relevant discoveries. 1 – With Storm, use her Special on Professor Xavier. Then, with Jean Grey, also use her Special ability. If Jean Grey is a Striker, target an enemy that has Vulnerable. Use Beast’s Ultimate ability to grant Speed Up and Offense Up to Storm and the rest of your team. With Polaris, use her Ultimate to gather the enemies together. For Cable, use his Special and target the enemy with the fullest Speed Bar. Finally, Storm’s Ultimate should be able to defeat everyone.

The damage and Bleeds that she will apply can eliminate Logan immediately, but you need a massive Firestar for that. A lvl 100 GT18 Firestar can eliminate a 4/5 Yellow, 3/4 Red Stars Logan, but it may depend on RNG and whether Firestar lands Critical attacks. Using Guardian instead of Dagger helps because he applies Offense Up to all allies on Spawn, so Firestar will deal more damage to Logan and can take down a 7 Yellow 5 Red Logan.
