Red Star and Diamonds Priority & DPC Costs

VIDEO ADVERTISEMENT

Intro

Red Stars and Diamonds are very beneficial in Marvel Strike Force. They increase characters’ base stats by up to 125%. Nowadays, it is easy to have most of the characters you use at 7 Red Stars, but upgrading Diamonds on characters should be a selective process.

Red Stars boost Health, Damage, Armor, Focus, and Resistance.

  • 1 Red Star – 5% boost
  • 2 Red Stars -10% boost
  • 3 Red Stars – 20% boost
  • 4 Red Stars – 35% boost
  • 5 Red Stars – 50% boost
  • 6 Red Stars – 60% boost
  • 7 Red Stars – 75% boost
  • 1 Diamond – 90% boost
  • 2 Diamonds – 105% boost
  • 3 Diamonds 125% boost

There are a few ways of procuring Red Stars and Diamonds: Elite Store, Orbs, Incursion Campaign (for Red Stars) and last but not least – Events.

One is random – by opening Red Star or Diamond Orbs – where you can get anything (from 1 to 7 Red Stars or 1 to 3 Diamonds) for a random character. Getting a good drop from these orbs is extremely rare. We recommend that you open Red Star Orbs only when there is an increased chance for more Dark Promotion Credits.

We can also get Red Stars for characters from Elite Star Orbs, which you can open by using Elite Credits. There are Elite 4,5,6 and 7 Star Orbs. Elite 4 Star Orb guarantees a 4 Red Star drop for a random character and has a chance at a higher Red Star drop, Elite 5 guarantees a 5 Red Star drop, etc. This is a better way of earning Red Stars, it is recommended to open these when we have a featured character there at an increased drop rate.

Another way of earning Red Stars is through the Incursion Campaign. It is way less random when compared to Orbs since you can select the nodes you want to farm, each node offers a small selection of characters, usually based on Traits.

The most important way is buying Red Stars and Diamonds directly from the supplies section of the Elite Store. That way players can pick specific characters and Red Star/Diamond Ranks they want to get by spending Silver, Gold, and Dark Promotion Credits (or Silver&Dark Diamond Credits). Characters will appear randomly and you can only buy the next Red Star or Diamond for any character. If your character has 2 Red Stars and you want to get him to 5 you can’t immediately buy 5, you will have to go in order and buy 3 Red Stars, then 4, and lastly 5. And to start getting Diamonds your character must have 7 Red Stars already.

The cost of Red Stars from the Elite store is:

  • 1 Red Star – 1 Silver Promotion Credit
  • 2 Red Stars – 4 Silver Promotion Credits
  • 3 Red Stars – 10 Silver Promotion Credits
  • 4 Red Stars – 50 Silver Promotion Credits
  • 5 Red Stars – 150 Silver Promotion Credits
  • 6 Red Stars – 100 Gold Promotion Credits
  • 7 Red Stars – 150 Gold Promotion Credits

Diamond Costs:

  • 1 Diamond – 50 Silver Diamond Credits
  • 2 Diamonds – 110 Silver Diamond Credits
  • 3 Diamonds – 280 Silver Diamond Credits

Priority List info

The Priority list will be separated into a few categories.

Dark Promotion Characters (Red Stars&Diamonds) – this will outline the best order of promoting DPC characters to higher Red Stars/Diamonds. The list will focus on relevant and current characters, so older characters that won’t offer a lot of value will be omitted.

The next sections will be for Diamond Promotion lists, specifically a list of the best Diamond Promotions based on game modes the characters are used for.

With the healthy income of Silver and Gold Promotion Credits, there is no need to have a list of Red Star promotions for normal characters. Make sure to attain all available Red Stars from the Incursion Campaign (list below), and after that, you can work on the remaining characters using Silver%Gold Promotion Credits. For new releases, make sure to open Elite Red Star Orbs when new characters are featured and save Elite Credits when there are no characters featured.

Important:
With each new character release or rework, we will update this list.

Dark Promotion Info

Upgrading Dark Promotion characters requires Dark Promotion Credits, and those are hard to come by even these days. Pair that with the fact that DPC prices for character Red Stars keep growing, and it leaves Free-to-Play players in an uncomfortable position where they might have to avoid some DPC characters altogether if they want to remain competitive or be able to clear any endgame content. This list is mostly for FTP players. Competitive players who can afford to spend should focus on getting the Battle Pass, which offers a lot of Dark Promotion Credits, this will allow them to get the most relevant/recent DPC characters to 7 Red Stars, characters like Logan, Super Skrull, Black Knight, etc.

Getting 4 or even 5 Red Stars for Scourge and Trial characters is achievable if you score well enough when their events are active. In terms of Horsemen characters, they are outdated at this point, so you can leave them at the Red Star Ranks that you can get from the Scourges. (alternatively, you can upgrade only the characters you often use, Red Hulk, Rogue, etc.)

For Trial Characters, Old Man Logan should be your first priority. Getting him to at least 6 Red Stars is recommended. If you don’t have a lot of Dark Promotion Credits, you can leave Logan at 6. He’s primarily amazing because of his controlling capabilities, and he has enough Focus to apply his debuffs. But having him at 7 Red will further increase his damage, and he can become a one-man army. Next, you can work on Green Goblin, he is useful in a lot of game modes and as such is a better investment than other Trial characters, so you could also get him to 6 Red, but he will also be good at 5. As for Nova and Black Cat, you can leave them at the Red Star ranks you got from their Trials. You could upgrade Nova more if you focus on Alliance War.

Black Knight is an amazing Protector with On Spawn Taunt, so having more Red Stars on him will be incredibly useful. The recommendation is to have at least 6 Red Stars, but his value is much better when he has more Health, so you can go into 1-2 Diamonds territory for him.

Quicksilver’s usefulness is rapidly declining as he is becoming older, and if you don’t have him at high Red Stars/Diamonds already, then investing now can be wasteful.

Iron Man (Zombie) doesn’t require having high red Stars on him for him to be very useful, so you can leave him at low Red Stars or upgrade him to 4 when you have spare Dark Promotion Credits. Juggernaut (Zombie) on the other hand needs more stats to function properly, so having him at 4-5 Red Stars will be very beneficial for his team and he takes priority over Iron Man. That said, Scarlet Witch (Zombie) can summon a new Juggernaut Zombie when the original dies and this summon will have his Stats based on Scarlet Witch, so you could ignore Red Stars for Jugg and instead focus on getting more Red Stars for Scarlet Witch. Undying is mostly a war-specific team, so invest in them only if you enjoy War or are very competitive in that game mode.

Doctor Doom and Dormammu will get 4 Red Stars after the second completion of Dark Dimensions, and that’s enough for them to do everything they need. However, if you want to upgrade them to 5, that is not a mistake. Going above 5 isn’t recommended until you took care of all other characters.

Spider-Man (Big Time) is a member of a War Defense team, and as such, you don’t need to have high Red Stars on him, but he also has decent value as a plug-and-play character, so you can go to 4-5 Red Stars if you find that his Focus is not enough.

Ultron doesn’t receive Red Stars after completing his Dark Dimension and as such you will have to buy those for him. Although going above 4 Red Stars for him is unnecessary and he can be ignored altogether.

Ultimus, after his Annihilator rework, is a powerful character, and his Red Stars/Diamonds don’t cost a lot, so you can Max him out to 3 Diamonds. Otherwise, he won’t be as useful.

Apocalypse still has tremendous value, even years after his release. But his stats are starting to get dangerously low and newer characters can often one-shot him if he has low Red Stars. This is why Apocalypse needs to have 7 Red Stars and even all 3 Diamonds.

Players who unlocked Odin in the first month after his release should have him at 7 Red Stars already, thanks to a milestone event. Players who only got into DD8 after the first Month will have Odin only at 4 Red Stars. Odin heavily relies on having a lot of Health, so having more Red Stars on him is highly recommended, but that might change based on his Red Star pricing once he’s added to the store.

Captain Britain and Scarlet Witch (Zombie) are currently not available free-to-play.

Dark Promotion Priority

We will list what Dark Promotion characters should receive upgrades in order of importance, if the character is not on the list – it means that their Red Stars/Diamonds can be ignored at this point. Important: It’s also a good idea to save up some Dark Promotion/Diamond Credits, especially if you’re a ftp player.

  1. Odin to 5 Red Stars (gained from DD completion)
  2. Mephisto to 7 Red Stars
  3. Apocalypse to 3 Diamonds
  4. Shadow King to 7 Red Stars
  5. Old Man Logan to 3 Diamonds
  6. Ultimus to 3 Diamonds
  7. Super Skrull to 2 Diamonds
  8. Black Knight to 2 Diamonds
  9. Captain Britain to 7 Red Stars
  10. Green Goblin (Classic) to 6-7 Red Stars (1-2 Diamonds)
  11. Juggernaut (Zombie) to 2 Diamonds
  12. Red Hulk to 2 Diamonds
  13. Black Cat to 2 Diamonds
  14. Nova to 5 Red Stars
  15. Rogue to 7 Red Stars
  16. Iron Man (Zombie) to 5 Red Stars
  17. Horsemen leave at 4 Red Stars (gained from Scourges)
  18. Doctor Doom and Dormammu leave at 4 Red Stars (gained from DD completion)
  19. Quicksilver to 7 Red Stars (can be ignored if FTP)
  20. Spider-Man (Big Time) to 4-5 Red Stars (can be ignored if FTP)
  21. Ultron to 4 Red Stars (can be ignored if FTP)

You can work on the other characters once you’ve completed the first five/six promotions. Green Goblin and Red Hulk can be pretty great at higher Red Stars or even Diamonds if you have spare Credits, but they will serve their purpose just fine at 6 Red Stars. Black Cat and Nova can be upgraded to 5+ if you use their teams often. Rogue can also be good at 5+ if you often use her with X-Treme X-Men in War or CC.

Once Odin and Mephisto have their Red Stars/Diamonds added to the store, they will be at the top of the priority list, with the goal of getting 2-3 Diamonds. The next update is likely for Old Man Logan Diamonds, and if the price isn’t too outrageous, having 3 Diamonds will be recommended

Players that have Captain Britain should also strive to get him to 7 Red Stars and even 1-2 Diamonds. Provided you have enough Yellow Stars.

Diamonds for Dark Promotion Characters

Characters that require Dark Promotion Credits(DPC) for their Red Stars also require Dark Diamond Credits for their Diamond upgrades. Prices for each character vary, but they still aren’t cheap, and the amount of Dark Diamond Credits we get is limited, so we should prioritize only the best.

Currently, there are a few DPC characters with Diamonds available for purchase from the Elite Store:

  • Old Man Logan
  • Apocalypse
  • Super Skrull
  • Ultimus
  • Black Knight
  • Green Goblin (Classic)
  • Black Cat
  • Juggernaut Zombie
  • Nova
  • Quicksilver
  • 4 Horsemen (Rogue, Archangel, Red Hulk, Morgan Le Fay)
  • Dormammu
  • Doctor Doom
  • Iron Man (Zombie)
  • Spider-Man (Big Time)
  • Ultron

Priority – Out of these characters, the obvious choice is to upgrade Apocalypse and Old Man Logan to 3 Diamonds first. After that, you can work on Ultimus since his Diamond upgrades are fairly cheap, and then take Super Skrull to at least 2 Diamonds. Black Knight has a lot of value in CC and War, so having a couple of Diamonds on him will also be useful. Then, it depends on your game-mode preferences. If you’re a heavy CC player, you can get a few Diamonds on Green Goblin Classic. If you’re more War focused, Green Goblin will also be great there, but this time Nova also gains a lot of benefits in War. Mephisto and Old Man Logan Diamonds are also bound to be added soon, so saving your Credits for them might be better.

For FTP players, the best thing to do would be to start with Apocalypse and then decide who they want to focus on next – a Mythic character or a legendary. You could get Super Skrull to 2 Diamonds if you have a lot of Dark Diamond Credits, or you can save up your Credits and wait for Old Man Logan to be added.

Diamonds Priority List

Diamonds Priority will be separated into a few smaller lists, depending on the game modes you prefer.

Generally, we can get 2-3 Diamonds for all characters that we can use in many game modes. Next, the focus is on Raid teams, especially the newer Orchis-era Raid teams. These teams can often be amazing in all other game modes, and they will also be required in some way for the Battleworld, so having Diamonds on those teams won’t hurt. After that, we can focus on characters that are only great in singular game modes (War, CC), etc.

Conclusion

A good amount of Red Stars for characters now are available from the Incursion Campaign so the focus should be on getting the best characters from there while using Promotion Credits only on ones that are not available through the Campaign. If you pair that with opening Elite Red Star Orbs when new characters are featured there, you will have no issues with Red Stars for normal characters

Now, the focus is shifting more toward Diamonds, so the priority lists will reflect that as well. Most new and reworked characters will benefit greatly from Diamonds because of their already increased base stats, so if possible, you should aim at 2 Diamonds for all of those while also making sure that you equip the best characters with 3 Diamonds.
